That’s why we offer intravenous (IV) sedation, a safe, effective way to help nervous patients feel more relaxed and comfortable during dental treatment.
Whether you’ve had a bad experience in the past or you feel anxious about the idea of dentistry in general, we’re here to help. Our experienced team will support you at every step, with kindness, patience, and skilled clinical care.
IV sedation uses a medication delivered through a small needle in your arm to help you feel calm and drowsy throughout your treatment. You’ll remain conscious, able to respond to the dental team, but you’re unlikely to remember much of the procedure.
It is not the same as a general anaesthetic, but many patients describe the experience as feeling like they’ve slept through the appointment. You’ll need someone to accompany you home and stay with you for the rest of the day.
Sedation may be a good option if you:
During your consultation, we’ll talk through your concerns and your medical history to ensure sedation is appropriate and safe for you.
Please note: Sedation is not suitable for patients under 12 years old or those who are pregnant.
We’ve safely delivered sedation for many years at The Campbell Clinic and have supported hundreds of nervous patients to receive the care they need.
Our clinical team includes sedation-trained professionals who are highly experienced in IV techniques, patient monitoring, and managing comfort throughout treatment. We follow rigorous safety protocols and always take the time to make sure you’re informed and supported.
Back to General DentistryYou must not drive, return to work, or be left alone for at least 24 hours after sedation.

Absolutely. IV sedation is very safe when delivered by experienced clinicians in a controlled clinical setting. We monitor you throughout and review your full medical history beforehand.
You may feel drowsy or a little forgetful for a few hours. We recommend taking the rest of the day to rest and recover, and having someone stay with you.
Typically, we’ll advise you not to eat or drink for 2–4 hours before your treatment. Full instructions will be given ahead of your appointment.
Yes. You must have someone accompany you home and stay with you for the next 24 hours. You won’t be able to drive, work, or operate machinery.
You don’t need to suffer in silence or delay treatment because of fear. We’re here to help with understanding, reassurance, and gentle sedation dentistry in Nottingham.
